3 pictures with Zach (at the cedars, Baalbek, and in Beirut, trying on outfits for the Syria, Jordan, and Israel legs of our journey), 1 with Soumaya (aka British Girl), and my roommate Kevin at Byblos, the oldest city in the world. Finally, the two halves of Lebanon, coexisting.

Do you think that your diminishing ability to take matters of Church and state in this culture seriously is, in any way, shaped by your own religious indecisiveness?
Hmm, good question. It's certainly possible, but I think it more has to do with a proof-in-the-pudding type of thing. I came with about as open of a mind as I could muster, wanting to learn as much as I could about all the different sects and what's really going on here and how and why. What I've experienced first hand has seemed more and more steeped in absurdity. The childishness, bickering, shameless disregard for all that is outside of the in-group's interests, and perpetual strings of abuse coming from every mouth directed at every other ear...I think listening to people talk has done the most for diminishing my ability to take any of these people very seriously.
