I made it.
It's very hot but I'm finally in a land of traditional clothes, signs that I can't begin to read, and the very few women on the streets are almost without exception all veiled. I had a straight delicious kebap - burrito style - for about a dollar and now all that remains is to get in touch with my host and groove on until the Lebanese border. Crossing was really quite simple only tedious - 2 hours partly because no one spoke English there but it was air conditioned and eventually I made it through without an issue or any bribes.
Mom, can you do me a favor? I can't get into NYU e-mail for some reason so could you please call LAU (212-870-2592) and make sure tuition went through. I don't want to get to Beirut with them having not received payment and me being out of luck. Thanks a lot. I love you.

Enjoy Damascus!!! The suq is awesome, and if you haven't heard of it, ask about the pillar that they believe Jesus will return to. There's this huge ice cream shop in the suq that's amazing. And the kebab's (schwerma) can't be beat.
I'm enjoying journey-ing with you!
Ed Shiner, LAU, confirmed receipt of your tuition and will meet you in Beirut in about two weeks. All is well here and there. Sorry emails have been missed... many ears, eyes and hearts are with you along the road. Held my breath as you crossed the Syrian border. Obviously, the bubble works. All you have and need is love. Mom
T..., what a wonderful adventure and at first I was worried for you but with your miles I have settled in enjoying each word with each kilometer. The emotions mixed into the poetry, the personalities, the life lessons leaves me visualizing a walk with my arm resting on your shoulder with you sharing short stories, colored and then delivered only the way you can. Thanks for sharing this seasons epoch.
Travis,
So glad you made it to Syria safely. Your blog is so interesting and I find myself holding my breath with each entry. You have such a wonderful eye and voice. It is a joy to follow your adventure. sz
